Long Range Squid Bait For Cod Fishing
He may be best remembered as the doddery Senior in this commercial, but let's not forget that Norman Lumsden was also a first-rate operatic bass. I once saw him perform live in Britten's 'The Little Sweep'. He lived to the age of 95.
Not all heroes wear capes
Is this the dude in "Dear God" by XTC? Up a tree?
Other books that feature fishing? 'The Compleat Angler' of course, by Izaak Walton, who is supposed to have learned to fish in Tixall Wide. 'Salmonia' by Humphry Davy, which is apparently about "the pleasures of angling, full of descriptions of river scenery".
What a delightful man , reminds me of my grandfather miss you both , Norman Lumsden and a fine performance too
I bought the book. 😁
I FOOKING CRIED WATCHING THIS
<3
The name 'waggler' comes from the way the float waggles in the air when you cast
Just checked and eBay do have copies for sale including a leather bound edition! Took, what, 20 seconds to find!
Pre eBay, those WERE the days!
best thing about this advert is, they actually published a book on the popularity of this ad, great memories,
This is for beginners?
very useful, thank you
You are welcome!
One for you Steve? 🤣
How to adjust the line if the water is deeper than the length of the rod, to hit the bottom?
Enjoyed that. Thanks for the tips and information.
I need someone’s help I went fishing tonight and really struggled to cast further out. I could only get it a couple metres out. When I made it heavier to cast further the float was just sinking? Pleaaaase advise thank you
Hi mate thanks so much for sharing this! I have been out of UK past 33 years and shall be returning soon finally! I am looking forward to fishing my local gravel pit membership again :)I plan to start back fishing slowly again both by float fishing for silver fish for a season before hopefully moving onto Tench and maybe Carp in the same lake maybe a season after. I am very greatfull for these tips as its been so long!! Big Thanks mate:)
I went fly fishing once----------- and caught a 10 pound blue bottle.
You didn't happen to catch an eccles as well, did you? They came as a pair.
I featured it in the "Angling Times"
The variable beachcaster rig as invented by Frank Getley on Jennetts reservoir in Devon with myself helping back in 1981 and I've used it every year since on suitable waters... Jennetts was about 26ft deep and the carp were very wary with floaters.......this rig solved the problem...
I bought the carp rod combo and it’s amazing but then I watch this video and he’s saying not to have thick bouncy line... but the rod comes with thick bouncy line... Matt what you saying
A controlled Underarm Lob or flick is also effective & more desirable when fishing in the Margins. Same easy action as Matt has shown, except Underarm.
nice pike buddy and good tips
Good video Matt. Plenty of info for new comers to fishing .
Very good video👍
There is a feeding frenzy behind you, you have a rod, but dont cast!😂 you british are so proper😂😂
The fish will be there after the video too...
Float fishing for commercial carp you can change your weights. I used to set up a swan shot 3 inches from the hook and then spread the rest up the line. This way you can spot bites two ways. float goes under or lifts out. creates a lighter version of a bolt rig too and aids setting the hook.
hows ron?
Hi john, loved the video, what kind of electric outboard did you put on the side of the boat. ?
Sorry about the below comment I meant to say Great video love Matt wish to I had seen this when I started fishing with my husband 8 years ago. I still cant land my fish using a net and my husband always helps I really do need to master this but really find keeping the fish on in one hand and getting the net in position to get it really awkward. Any videos on this technique I can catch them no problem!
Gr
Thanks simple and helpful
one thing. the weights needed to weigh down a float are written on the side of the float now are they the weights placed directly either side of the float or is it the total weight including the smaller weights down towards the hook? thanks
that is the weight you need to set the float but take into consideration the bait you are using. worms or corn are heavier than maggots for example so you may need to under shot your line depending on what youre using
@@charliepamment1 thanks
thank you matt , where can we buy this rod ?
No wedding ring on 🤔
@radabee1 nah I'm straight thanks
Don't want to risk it catching on anything and losing it, too many tales of losing rings while fishing

Matt I have been waiting for this video as your first one disappeared just as I was getting into it.I will make sure I dont lose this one, as a beginner I will highly reccomend this to all starting out. is there a DVD of this series to buy, it would be very good to watch and learn from it. A video well done.
Can you share the link to buy the DVD?
boring...
Martin Pêcheur shut up
nobhead Pecheur!
wells catfish?
Whats the UK record ?? Here in norway there is a special small lake, giant crusians over 5lbs...
I have a 15lb line for float fishing. Nonsense about it making it more difficult, if anything, it means you don't lose the fish when your crap line snaps.
Bprezzle it 6lb or 4lb is perfect for float fishing maybe you’re just shit and casting into tree and breaking of or your fishing for 30lb fish you can fish 15lb line with the thickness of 5lb line (braid fishing line) but we normally use mono and from experience 15 line doesn’t really fit in a float or the size of hook you should have been using
@@StirringAlloy if your sea float fishing for coalfish as an example, those beasties can weigh up to 18lbs with an average of 7lbs, so a heavier line is needed. But like most things, some survival/extinction bias is typically at play in most communities. The biggest recommendation is take your time I researching, what you want to catch, where etc and then equip yourself with knowledge before buying anything. Much like any big hobby like cycling, rowing, etc
Great tune to start and brill underwater footage Guys....Happy Days :)
Good short and easy to understand video for beginners to learn how to float fish.
